Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. – Water Rat, Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Gramme, 1908.

This sentiment is so powerful that Messabouts are a thing: a gathering of people who love the lore and learning of boats. This week is a Messabouts.

~ Begin each day by constructing a quick experimental boat for play.
~ Work every day on an elegant Pond Yacht. A 'free sailor,' rigged to guide itself.
~ Join a team to glue up a cardboard dinghy to paddle in a Friday Regatta.
~ Canoe the Mill River with the New Haven Parks Department, weather permitting.

Special thanks to Connecticut Container Corporation and The New Haven Parks Department.

Instructor Josh Revkin is a professional world champion sailor.
