2018 Summer Program

We live in an age where everyone with a phone is a photographer too, and the selfie reigns supreme. But what actually makes a photograph great? Learn to identify the visual elements that make a photograph stand out from the hundreds of snapshots you see everyday.

Use those lessons to take beautiful photographs and edit them in Pixlr. Daily lessons will focus on pattern, light, color, and shape, with discussion focused on the classic, surprising, and even humorous work of master photographers. Students will use the museum's cameras. This class is designed for students aged 11 - 15.

Stephanie Anestis is a Hamden-based photographer who loves teaching children and adults about this exciting and versatile artistic medium. She primarily photographs people, and loves looking for beautiful light. She began Stephanie Anestis Photography in 2010 and has been photographing and showing her work throughout Connecticut since. She is thrilled to be teaching children how to see the world through the eyes of a photographer. You can see her work at www.stephanieanestis.com.

The Department of Economic and Community Development and the Connecticut Office for the Arts helped underwrite the Museum's Visiting Artist Program.
