Antoinette Portis’ It’s Not a Box (Harper Collins ©2007) reminds us to begin with imagination. She hints at some things a box could be...and then expects you to add your own ideas.

Start each day with something: a box, a board, a bag, a bottle. Work with the group to imagine and build some small things it might be. For instance, start out with a paper bag turned into a hat, mask crown or wig. While building your hat learn tools and skills that help you do the things you would like to do. Then use those tools and skills to choose one idea to work on and make your very own special something. Play some games that tickle out fresh ideas. Imagination will do the rest.
