Karakuri is Japanese and means "mechanical device to tease, trick, or take a person by surprise." The word implies magic. But a thousand year tradition of clever artisans perfected Japan's artful robots. Construct a small automaton, seated at a desk, that puts pen to paper and traces simple forms. Its arms will move, its head will turn and bow. All driven by a geared motor powered by C cell batteries. Costume your character as a Scholar or Prince or Monkey of your own invention.
