Step 1
Glue and nail the sides of the camera obscura to the face of the camera obscura. Make sure the edges line up right; the punched holes for the nails should go over the wood. Be sure to keep them as straight as possible to minimize cracks at the corners.

Step 2
Add the lens to the face of the camera obscura. First push the short dowel into the peg-hole, then slide the lens over that.

Step 3
Assemble the viewscreen. It is important that the vellum be perfectly flat, so be careful as you tack it down. If the vellum is wrinkly, the image will not focus.

Step 4
Next take the small knob and put a touch of glue on the end. Insert this into the hole on the outside (the one without the thumbtacks) of the screen.

Step Done
Put the screen inside the casing, and stretch your rubber band around the box to help limit light leaking in the corners. Use the knob to push in or out on the screen to adjust the position of the view screen, to focus on an image.

Projection
Push the keychain light into the slot in the front of the camera and tape an image flat to the inside of the screen, adjusting the position of the light so that an image is projected out of the lens when viewed in a darkened room.
