On Martin Luther King's Day, celebrate bold journeys.
The camel is an ancient servant to the civilizations of Africa, the Middle East, India, and China. It tolerates cold and heat. It endures on paltry food and water. It travels across deserts and mountains on the slightest of trails. Its every fiber, milk, and muscle are valued by both nomads and farmers. Construct a camel. Braid a tail from camel wool you've spun. Learn the purposes of its unusual architecture...down to its long eyelashes. Hear camel stories. And then construct your camel's friends from India or Africa or Afghanistan.
To honor Dr. King, the Museum will invest the tuition from this workshop in scholarships for the children of IRIS. The Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, www.irisct.org serves families that have endured difficult journeys to New Haven from Africa, the Middle East, and other parts of the world in turmoil.
