2018 Summer Program

Mosaic is the art of creating pictures with pieces of glass, stone, or pottery. It is a technique used by many ancient civilizations from the Romans and Greeks to the early Byzantine Empire. Explore this exciting art form and learn the same techniques practiced thousands of years ago. Using glass, ceramic tile, pottery, stone, and found objects, you will create your own wall panel or small tabletop mosaic that you design.

Then, after having mastered the techniques, you will work together with the rest of the group to mosaic a three-dimensional sculpture for the Eli Whitney water lab. You will help design, and then attach mosaic tiles to the sculpture using ceramic tile to create a colorful sculpture that will welcome visitors to the water lab for years to come.

The Department of Economic and Community Development and the Connecticut Office for the Arts helped underwrite the Museum's Visiting Artist Program.
