Introducing Shakespeare

2019 Summer Program

420 years ago, William Shakespeare and his fellow actors formed a company to construct The Globe theatre on the south bank of the Thames in London. The Globe was not London's first theatre. But it became the most famous largely for the plays that Will Shakespeare produced there. Shakespeare became the English language's most gifted playwright. Shakespeare spoke eloquently to an audience with little access to books or reading.

Build a model of the Globe, its audience of both noble and common folks, its actors and musicians, its stagehands an gatherers, its fruit sellers and pickpockets. Begin to know stories, as Shakespeare told them, with an eye that saw deep into characters and with an ear that heard the poetry in words. Enjoy a playful introduction to works that you can appreciate over your entire lifetime..
