2024 Summer Program

During the 19th and early 20th century streetcars were an important mode of transportation in cities across the United States. While their popularity waned after buses and cars took over the roads, streetcars are still found all over the world. Join us as we learn about the history of streetcars in our region and beyond. From the controller to the brakes, we will explore the inner workings of different types of streetcars. We will construct a trolley that lights up using overhead electrical lines. A special field trip to the the Shoreline Trolley Museum will bring our learning to life, and campers will have an opportunity to ride on a real trolley. On our final day, we’ll connect a large network of tracks for a fun-filled day of play.
