Architects think with their hands. They sculpt models to find and test solutions to meet needs. Sometimes again and again and again: searching for useful beauty. A sandbox is a good way to practice this process.
Construct tools, props and sand box models to explore classic design challenges each day:
With the class, sculpt the a model of the Rhine River with its wandering banks. Then Make a wooden excursion boat and a micro model of a glorious castle.
With the class, sculpt a 40’ long model of China’s Great Wall. Construct the mini Mongolian hoard that attacked it from the North.
With the class, construct the mountains and fairy towers of central Turkey. Then cut your own house into this ancient landscape. Make a family and its animals.
With the class, erect an Egyptian pyramid with its burial chambers and temple. Construct your own Nile work boat and housing for your micro builders.
Finally construct your own indoor casting lab with remarkable Swedish mess-less (almost) casting sand. With carving tools and molds.
