2013 Summer Program

Carefully flooded fields of rice have fed the people of Vietnam for millenia. Those fields also spawned a distinctive art form: Water Puppets. Vietnam’s legends and folktales are often stories of water fairies and dragons. Traveling storytellers would perform the stories in the ponds and fields that circled every village. Later special water theaters were constructed.

Construct a dragon that will glide and dive across our water theater (or your bathtub). It will spew and spray. Construct a hero, her or his boat, and a story. Then join a group in constructing the Water Beasts of the Western Wild. Build a a noble story: sea creatures of the Odyssey; or a more modern familiar story: a little mermaid or a friendly, adventurous (and lost) fish.

There will be no class July 4th.
