In 1976, a veteran writer, Jay Williams, collaborated with the young illustrator, Mercer Mayer, to produce Everybody Knows What a Dragon Looks Like, a lively legend of a young boy and a dragon in China. Nixon had just opened China. Perhaps the tale is wise in its respect for hidden power ready to flourish.

Build a small palace and the characters of this story: a Mandarin and his dragon who looks like a Ruler, a General and his dragon who is a warrior, a Merchant and his dragon who hoards gold, and a boy with the wisdom not to be fooled and who welcomes the Grand Dragon whose powers are not obvious. Your dragons will fly, swim, dance, and rule. With music, art and magic from China.
